"Optical Character Recognition" is needed for the conversion of incoming messages from graphical format (TIF and/or PDF) into text (e-mail body text and/or PDF-attachment).

The text in the body text helps to find fax messages e.g. using the "Standard Search Dialog" of the mail client.

In order to have fax messages read out to you via text-to-speech (ixi-UMS Voice-Mail Server), it is absolutely necessary to transfer faxes via OCR into the body text of the e-mail.
