"Optical Character Recognition" is needed for the conversion of incoming messages from graphical format (TIF and/or PDF) into text (e-mail body text and/or PDF-attachment).

The advantage of the RTF-document is that it is tried to adopt the formatting of the fax. Text in the e-mail body helps to find fax messages, e.g. by means of "Default Search-Dialog" of the mail client.

In order to have faxes read to you by means of Text-to-Speech (ixi-UMS Voice-Mail Server), it is mandatory to adopt faxes into the e-mail body text via OCR.
